Who we are
TapTap Code is an independent software company based in the United Kingdom. We make Great With Faces, a desktop contact management application. This privacy policy covers taptapcode.net and explains how we handle the small amount of information we collect through it.
The data controller is TapTap Code. You can reach us at info@taptapcode.net.
What information we collect
The only personal information we collect is your email address, and only when you choose to subscribe to our newsletter. That's it.
We do not collect:
- Website analytics or browsing behaviour
- Names, phone numbers, or addresses
- Payment or financial information (see Purchases below)
- Any information from the Great With Faces app (see App Data Practices below)
Why we collect your email
We use your email address solely to send you our newsletter — product updates, release notes, and occasional news about Great With Faces and TapTap Code.
The lawful basis for this is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You give that consent when you subscribe, and you can withdraw it at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
Services we use
Running our website involves a small number of third-party services. Each one is listed below with a link to their own privacy policy.
Substack — Our newsletter is managed and delivered through Substack. When you subscribe, your email address is stored and processed by Substack, Inc. (USA). Substack sends the emails on our behalf.

Web3Forms — The sign-up form on our website is powered by Web3Forms. When you submit the form, your email address passes through Web3Forms' service before reaching us.

Cloudflare Pages — Our website is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. Cloudflare may process visitor data such as IP addresses as part of delivering our site.

Purchases — When purchasing Great With Faces becomes available, payments will be processed by a third-party vendor. TapTap Code will not store your payment card details. We will update this page with the vendor's name and a link to their privacy policy before purchases go live.
How long we keep your email
We keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to our newsletter. When you unsubscribe, your email is removed from our mailing list. If you'd like written confirmation that your email has been deleted, email us at info@taptapcode.net and we'll confirm within 30 days.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Withdraw consent — unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email
- Request deletion of your email address — email info@taptapcode.net
- Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you believe we've handled your data unlawfully
ICO contact details: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint · 0303 123 1113 · Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, SK9 5AF.
We'd always prefer to resolve concerns directly first — please email us before contacting the ICO.
Changes to this policy
If we make any meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Given how little data we collect, we don't expect this to change often.

Great With Faces App — Data Practices
This section explains what happens to personal data inside the Great With Faces app — who stores it, where it goes, and what third-party services it may touch.
Your data lives on your device
All contact records, notes, photos, and settings are stored in an encrypted database on your own computer. The database and all contact photos are encrypted at rest using AES-256. TapTap Code has no copy of your data and no ability to access, recover, or delete it on your behalf.
Cloud backups go to your own account
If you choose to back up your data, the backup file is written directly to your own Google Drive or Dropbox account — not to TapTap Code's. The backup contains your contacts and settings in JSON format. Your OAuth credentials are never included in backup files. TapTap Code cannot access your cloud storage.
Third-party connections you control
The app can connect to the following services, but only when you explicitly enable each one. None of these connections happen automatically.
- Google Contacts — imports your contacts (read-only). Nothing is written back to Google Contacts. Google Privacy Policy
- Google Drive — stores a backup of your contacts in your own Drive. Google Privacy Policy
- Dropbox — stores a backup of your contacts in your own Dropbox. Dropbox Privacy Policy
- LinkedIn — retrieves publicly available profile data (name, job title, photo) for a specific contact when you request profile enrichment. Bulk import uses a CSV you download from LinkedIn yourself — no API access. LinkedIn Privacy Policy
- Instagram — imports your follower or following list. You log in directly on Instagram's own page; the app never sees your password. No session is stored after import. Instagram Privacy Policy
Automatic background requests
The app makes two lightweight background requests that happen without a manual trigger:
- Gravatar photo lookup — when the app tries to find a profile photo for a contact, it sends a SHA-256 hash of their email address to Gravatar. The email itself is never transmitted — only the hash. If no photo is found, a local placeholder is used. Automattic Privacy Policy
- Map tiles (Carto) — when you view the world map, tile images are loaded from Carto's CDN. Only the tile coordinates are sent (zoom level and map position). No contact data is transmitted. Carto Privacy Policy
What the app does not do
- It does not send analytics, usage statistics, or crash reports to TapTap Code or anyone else.
- It does not create a TapTap Code account or require any login.
- It does not transmit your contacts to TapTap Code's servers — because we don't have any.
You are the data controller
When you enter personal information about other people into Great With Faces, you become the data controller for that information. That means it's your responsibility to make sure you have a legitimate reason to record it — for example, that your contacts would reasonably expect you to keep their details. TapTap Code is not responsible for how you use the app to manage other people's data.
Deleting your data
Because your data is on your device, you are in full control of it. You can delete individual contacts at any time. Deleted contacts are kept in a Recycle Bin for 30 days (so you can recover accidents) and then permanently erased. To remove all your data, uninstall the app and delete the app data folder from your computer.
